Stadsaal Cave – Matjiesriver Nature Reserve

The history of South Africa is filled with so many unique and special places, but the Stadsaal Cave may be one that you didn’t know existed. This cave in particular has some pretty interesting origins!
The Matjiesriver Nature Reserve up near Algeria camp on the Cederberg Wilderness belongs to allocating it as a rest stop for travelers along their way from Cape Town towards Lesotho or Swaziland – not too much later than 1810 AD either which makes this site older than most other historic sites around here by quite awhile.. And what’s even more fascinating? It turns out these natural underground tunnels were used back then before anyone knew they were there.

In the shadow of some ancient rock art, you’ll find another important landmark. This one has more recent ties to South African history- Stadsaal (Afrikaans for City Hall) is a huge cave that was carved out by thousands upon thousand years’ worth erosion and other weather factors!

The Stadsaal (City Hall) dome stands as a testament that humans can create masterful works with nature’s raw materials–even if they are powerless against some other forces like wind erosion or seasonal changes in rainfall.

I remember the first time that I went to The Stadsaal Caves. It was during one of our school holidays, and here with my father and brother!
